Innovative Approaches to Emergency Medical Services Fellowship Challenges
Introduction: Since the development of an Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-accredited emergency medical services (EMS) fellowship, there has been little published literature on effective methods of content delivery or training modalities. Here we explore a variety of innovative approaches to the development and revision of the EMS fellowship curriculum.Methods: Three academic, university-based ACGME-accredited EMS fellowship programs each implemented an innovative change to their existing training curricula. These changes included the following: a novel didactic curriculum delivery modality and evaluation; implementation of a distance education program to improve EMS fellows’ rural EMS experiences; and modification of an existing EMS fellowship curriculum to train a non-emergency medicine physician.Results: Changes made to each of the above EMS fellowship programs addressed unique challenges, demonstrating areas of success and promise for more generalized implementation of these curricula. Obstacles remain in tailoring the described curricula to the needs of each unique institution and system.Conclusion: Three separate curricula and program changes were implemented to overcome specific challenges and achieve educational goals. It is our hope that our shared experiences will enable others in addressing common barriers to teaching the EMS fellowship core content and share similar innovative approaches to educational challenges
Web-Based Training for an Evidence-Supported Treatment: Training Completion and Knowledge Acquisition in a Global Sample of Learners
The purpose of this investigation is to describe the characteristics of professional and preprofessional learners who registered for and completed TF-CBTWeb, a modular, web-based training program designed to promote the dissemination of Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and to demonstrate the feasibility of this method of dissemination. Between October 1, 2005, and October 1, 2012, a total of 123,848 learners registered for TF-CBTWeb, of whom 98,646 (79.7%) initiated the learning activities by beginning the first module pretest. Of those, 67,201 (68.1%) completed the full training. Registrants hailed from 130 countries worldwide, and they had varied educational backgrounds, professional identities (both professional and preprofessional), and a range of experience working with child trauma victims. Learners who were from the United States, students, those with master’s degrees, and those with fewer years of experience working with child trauma victims tended to have the highest course completion rates. Learners displayed significant increases in knowledge about each component of TF-CBT, based on module pretest and posttest scores. The advantages and limitations of this web-based training program evaluation are discussed, while important implications for the use of web-based trainings are reviewed
Diverse Stellar Haloes in Nearby Milky Way-Mass Disc Galaxies
We have examined the resolved stellar populations at large galactocentric
distances along the minor axis (from 10 kpc up to between 40 and 75 kpc), with
limited major axis coverage, of six nearby highly-inclined Milky Way-mass disc
galaxies using HST data from the GHOSTS survey. We select red giant branch
stars to derive stellar halo density profiles. The projected minor axis density
profiles can be approximated by power laws with projected slopes of between
and and a diversity of stellar halo masses of , or of the total galaxy stellar masses. The typical
intrinsic scatter around a smooth power law fit is dex owing to
substructure. By comparing the minor and major axis profiles, we infer
projected axis ratios at kpc between . The GHOSTS
stellar haloes are diverse, lying between the extremes charted out by the
(rather atypical) haloes of the Milky Way and M31. We find a strong correlation
between the stellar halo metallicities and the stellar halo masses. We compare
our results with cosmological models, finding good agreement between our
observations and accretion-only models where the stellar haloes are formed by
the disruption of dwarf satellites. In particular, the strong observed
correlation between stellar halo metallicity and mass is naturally reproduced.
Low-resolution hydrodynamical models have unrealistically high stellar halo
masses. Current high-resolution hydrodynamical models appear to predict stellar
halo masses somewhat higher than observed but with reasonable metallicities,

Probe Vehicle Bluetooth Study for Travel Time Savings Estimation
Interstate 69 is a new highway envisioned to eventually travel the length of the United States, from Canada to Mexico. In Indiana, the construction is being completed in a series of segments, as shown below. With the opening of new sections, the travel time savings for travelers can be quantified. By deploying Bluetooth data loggers to capture unique MAC addresses of travelers’ devices, timestamps for corresponding MAC addresses along the study route can be matched to determine travel time. Compared to the posted speeds and lengths of new interstate sections, the travel time saved by using I-69 can be estimated. One such study was completed for the previous opening of I-69 Sections 1-3, and researchers completed a study for Section 4, which opened to public traffic on December 6, 2015

SummaryDuring the breeding season, male koalas produce ‘bellow’ vocalisations that are characterised by a continuous series of inhalation and exhalation sections, and an extremely low fundamental frequency (the main acoustic correlate of perceived pitch) [1]. Remarkably, the fundamental frequency (F0) of bellow inhalation sections averages 27.1 Hz (range: 9.8–61.5 Hz [1]), which is 20 times lower than would be expected for an animal weighing 8 kg [2] and more typical of an animal the size of an elephant (Supplemental figure S1A). Academic Achievement of K-12 Students With Emotional and Behavioral Disorders

served in public school settings and established the extent to which students with emotional/behavioral
disorders (E/BD) experience academic achievement deficits with attention to age and gender
differences. In addition, this study examined particular types of problem behaviors related to academic
achievement. Results indicate that stuAents with E/BD showed large academic achievement
deficits across all of the content areas, and the deficits appeared to be stable or worsen in the case of
mathematics across age. There appeared to be no gender differences. Additionally, externalizing behaviors
were related to reading, mathematics, and written language achievement; whereas, internalizing
ones were not
Two frameworks for integrating knowledge in induction
The use of knowledge in inductive learning is critical for improving the quality of the concept definitions generated, reducing the number of examples required in order to learn effective concept definitions, and reducing the computation needed to find good concept definitions. Relevant knowledge may come in many forms (such as examples, descriptions, advice, and constraints) and from many sources (such as books, teachers, databases, and scientific instruments). How to extract the relevant knowledge from this plethora of possibilities, and then to integrate it together so as to appropriately affect the induction process is perhaps the key issue at this point in inductive learning. Here the focus is on the integration part of this problem; that is, how induction algorithms can, and do, utilize a range of extracted knowledge. Preliminary work on a transformational framework for defining knowledge-intensive inductive algorithms out of relatively knowledge-free algorithms is described, as is a more tentative problems-space framework that attempts to cover all induction algorithms within a single general approach. These frameworks help to organize what is known about current knowledge-intensive induction algorithms, and to point towards new algorithms
